We are asked to catch insects like houseflies, cockroach and grasshoppers for our biology practical. Unfortunately, all of the houseflies I caught are dead on the next day. I'm unsuccessfully catch any grasshoppers. While, the cockroach I caught are incomplete. I dissected a cockroach today during the biology period just for an exercise. But, I have to do it again because of the incomplete cockroach. Before dissect the cockroach, we need to dip a cotton wool in chloroform to anesthesia that cockroach. One of the cockroach fly out of the container when I open the cover of the container. Thanks for my classmate who helped me to catch back that cockroach. After anesthesia the cockroach, dissection is carried out. After that, we have to clean the viscus of the cockroach.
OMG... I don't think I have the guts to dissect a cockroach, let alone to hold it! I don't care if they're anesthetized or what, they are just disgusting. Oh gosh... bravo to you girl for bravely going through that whole dissecting activity. Lord knows I wouldn't be able to handle what you just did.

ReplyDeleteuggh dissecting a cockroach I think I would be so grossed out haha I hate cockroaches from years of living in Taiwai (they're HUGE there compare to north america haha) I don't mind dissecting frogs but I don't think I can do a roach!
ReplyDeletegood luck on the rest of the dissections!

that is terrifying. we had to dissect insects and stuff in bio in high school too, but we dissected lab worms and lab insects. catching those outside your house is really a health hazard. you should complain to your teacher! i cannot imagine making my students do that...YUCK
ReplyDeleteOMG! I would be so scared to do this!! I hate bugs and am terrified of them!! Good luck :)

ReplyDeletei've never dissected an insect before and... probably wouldn't want to since i KNOW for sure that the cockroaches in asia are HUGE & can fly. i guess i'm just not fond of insects... haha. i'd prefer an animal (frog, pig, etc) ... weird, right? :P
anywho, hope to hear from you soon, would love to have you as a follower! :)

ReplyDeleteOh my! If I ever had to ask dissecting a cockroach or a rat or a frog, will never be able to do it. I have weak stomach on this. ;( You're a brave girl! thanks for visiting my site!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college, what we dissected were frogs and cats. I think it's harder to dissect those smaller insects.
